Thursday 25 March Just over 2 weeks to go and the pressure is on to complete my training, get my kit organised and my camper van equipped. Not to mention “clearing my desk” before taking my 4 month sabbatical. I feel both glad that I’ll soon be under way but apprehensive that I might not cope with the challenge I’ve set myself. Tomorrow I head for Inverness to get my “badge” advertising the walk (designed by Rowena Diggle) embroidered on to various garments I’ll be wearing. I’m also getting some “advertising” put on to the sides of my camper van. “GRANDDAD’S MAD MUNRO MARATHON” will feature prominently, hopefully catching the eye and helping me to pick up sponsorship along the way. At some point in the next few days I hope to have a chat with Martin Moran. Martin who is a renowned local mountain guide did all the Munros in an incredible 83 days in the winter 1984-85. Mind you there were only 277 Munros then….
Thursday, 31 March Felt rather emotional leaving our home, in Applecross, knowing I won’t see it again for over 3 months. Cheered by interest of group of tourists at top of Bealach na Ba who were fascinated by the information on my van. Likewise by man in car park in Aviemore who donated £10.
Saturday, 3 April Climbed Beinn Mhanach, Bridge of Orchy, with son in law, John Mair (originator of “Granddad’s Mad Munro Marathon” label). Snow seems likely to be a significant factor – will have to postpone some of the bigger days.
THE START IS ON SATURDAY, 10 APRIL
All support will be very welcome. We plan to meet at the Car Park, just north of Rowardennan Hotel, at 12.00.
Fri 23 April
Apologies for limited e mail & blog activity so far – catching up on first rest day, today.
All going wonderfully well so far – 38 Munros done in first 13 days. Joints & stamina coping well at this stage.
The support from friends & family and strangers encountered en route, has been incredible and will certainly keep me going. Quite a few folk seem to have heard of the walk & are amused to meet “Granddad”. The van attracts much interest.
In week 1, Ford set a standard as base camp manager, driver & general fixer that will be hard to follow. He spent 2 days down in Oban getting the van’s electrics modified so I can charge up my various gizmos without needing external supply. This unexpected factor, plus the hills in the west being less snow covered, caused me to change my itinerary.
Wonderful to have so many supporters at B Lomond for the start, including 2 of our grandchildren, Andy & Euan, with whom I completed the Munros in ’96, and Allan & John with whom I have shared many hills.
Mon 3 May Reached 63 yesterday. Hoped to do 2 more today but van broke gear box cable at foot of Ben Klibreck. Rescued by Rhona from Ullapool. Hope to be back in hills tomorrow with Ford Focus transport. Getting van back Saturday.
Wed 5 May Said goodbye to David Murray this morning after much invaluable assistance. 5 most westerly Fannaichs yesterday and Moruisg this morning taking total to 69. Walking in to Shenavall this evening and hoping to do the Fisherfield 6 tomorrow then An Teallach on the way out on Friday. Fitness holding up well but noticed weight loss of 4 lbs so will have to eat more! Hoping to rerieve repaired van at weekend from Ullapool. Cairngorms from next Monday. Greatly encouraged by support from all and by the interest and enthusiasm of folk I’m meeting. Weather brilliant in week 1 but subsequently typical Scottish mixture with a lot of mist to navighate in and some pretty wintry conditions with snow an issue at times though haven’t used ice axe or crampons (could have done with them on Bidean nam Bian}. Great to hear that our 3 girls, Shona, Eileen & Elspeth all completed the Great Edinburgh 10k on Saturday, raising over £1,000 for the Fund in the process. The total on line & off line sponsorship for the walk is now around £14,000 – like my walk itself a fine start but still a long way to go to reach our target of £50,000.
Mon May 10 Since last entry: Fisherfield 6, An Teallach 2, BenKlibreck & Ben Hope, Seanna Braigh, Eididh N C G & Meall nan C 3, Sgorr Gaoith & Mullach Clach a Bhlair 2. Total 86 in 31 days – 29 days walking. Not going into Cairngorms tomorrow because of full on winter conditions and poor forecast. Will do something easier!
Tue 11 Ben Teallach & Ben a’ Chaorainn with Lawrence
Wed 12 Craig Meagaidh trio solo in 5 hours 20 mins – beautiful snow conditions on plateau – see below
Thu 13 35 km over Derry Cairngorm to Beinn Bhrac quartet with Alasdair in full on winter conditions – white out and all – frozen Loch Etchecan and cliffs of Ben Machdui looking amazingly Arctic for mid May
Fri 14 Mt Keen from north – 20km on bike, 7 on foot
Sat 15 8 Munros from Glen Shee to Glen Doll with Angela & Adam (+ Arkel & Canna – hare hunters extraordinaire). No. 100 reached on Tom Buidhe. Enjoying ther luxury of staying with John, Shona, Isobel & Catriona in holiday cottage in Glen Isla for 6 nights – half of lost 4 lbs weight regained!
A massive vote of thanks to all who have walked with me, driven my camper van or supported me in any way, particularly Ford Shaw, Iain Gill, David Murray & Angela Mudge. I’ve been hugely encouraged by the interest and generosity of fellow walkers & others met along the way. I particularly want to record my appreciation of the amazing generosity of Andrew MacDonald of Trail West Caravan & Trailer Centre, Oban, who did substantial work on my van but made no charge for his labour.
So far my aging machinery is holding up well with just 2 rest days, 37 days walking and 112 Munros. I feel fitter now than when I started and if I can avoid injury and health problems I should be able to finish by July 17.
41 Munros have been done solo so plenty of scope for folk to join me. I currently have no support booked for Knoydart, Lochaber & Glen Shiel. I’m getting ahead of my schedule so will need to revise some of the later dates if good progress continues.
Publicity has been excellent. I’m having the novel experience of meeting folk who say they’ve seen me on TV or read about me. Alan Thomson of STV will be with me again on Tuesdayso, hopefully, further TV coverage will follow.
Sun 16 Lochnagar + 4 with Angela. Happy chance meeting with Wendy & her “boys” on Lochnagar
Mon 17 Glas Tuaichean & Carn an Righ with John (son in law & coiner of “Granddad’s Mad Munro Marathon”).
Monster 14 hour day on Affric 8.
I had around 100 different walking companions covering 200 of the 283 Munros, notably Iain Gill who was with me on over 50. Innumerable others sponsored me or helped me in many different ways, most importantly Rhona, whose unwavering and loving support, often via the mobile phone, on various windswept and, sometimes, lonely summits, played a vital part. She had much to worry about but never communicated her worries to me. I could not have found the motivation to get round in under 3 months without the backing you all gave me. It has truly been a community effort.
There were many high points. Most involved the people I walked with or encountered: the many supporters on my first and last Munros, the party of 60 pupils, parents and teachers from Sacred Heart PS, Penicuik, on Geal Charn, Drummochter, the Morrow family cycling and walking to be with me in a gale on Ben Lawers and in the sunshine on Carn a Chlamain, Glen Tilt, daughters Shona and Elspeth joining me on 5 of the Munros (Shona resourcefully between breast feeding Catriona) and Eileen being there for the final celebration on Ben Chonzie.
There were low points too: navigational errors costing me 2 hours in Glen Tilt and a 15 hour / 40 mile day that finished after midnight, getting lost in the dark, within a few hundred yards of the A82, coming off Ben Chabhair, after a 13 hour day, and climbing an outlying “top” on An Teallach by mistake when I was exhausted after another 13 hour marathon, on the Fisherfield six the previous day.
Generally it was tougher than I had expected, particularly the final 26 days when I pushed to the finish, without a break, over many of our most testing hills in the north-west. The almost total lack of time to relax between hills took me by surprise. I had naively packed books and puzzles but soon jettisoned them all. Driving over 5,000 miles, took much of my “free” time.
The media interest was also a surprise, including 3 appearances on STV news. The latest on Wednesday 7 July, covering the finish on Ben Chonzie, can be viewed at
http://video.stv.tv/?bcpid=1610699553&bclid=0&bctid=110136630001 (coverage starts after about 15 minutes 30 seconds so you can fast forward to save watching all the news).
Some of the strongest overall impressions are around the natural wonders of our Highland hills and glens, and of the kindness, generosity and encouragement I received from strangers along the way. There were many moments of great beauty: being amongst the Alpine snow covered mountains in Glen Coe in April, the wild Arctic scenery around Loch Etchacan, in the Cairngorms, in mid May and twice, after wild camping in mist at around 2,500 feet in Lochaber, waking to the rising sun and stunning landscapes.
But it was not just the scenery that impressed. In spite of my poor long vision and even more limited knowledge of the natural world, I became increasingly struck by the beauty and abundance of the flora and fauna around me: the emerging profusion of wild flowers, the deer calves, innumerable Ptarmigan chicks, the haunting whistling call of the Dotterel, frogs jumping perilously under my feet, and scampering Arctic hare gradually changing from their winter white to brown.
Much good fortune went with me, allowing me not to lose a single day through injury or ill health. There were some “near things”. Twice in remote locations, with help dangerously far away, I was close to being seriously injured. Descending Ruadh Stac Mor in the Fisherfield (between Kinlochewe and Dundonnell) my foot got stuck between two boulders causing a muscle tear in my calf that could easily have immobilised me. Then, just last Sunday, descending Ben Macdui, in the Cairngorms, in terrible conditions, an unstable boulder pitched me into a forward roll from which, to my amazement, I landed, almost completely unhurt, on the only patch of grass for hundreds of yards.
So, one challenge is over but the bigger and much more important challenge remains: to reach my target of £50,000 towards two specific projects for a beautiful charity in memory of a very wonderful and greatly missed friend. I talked to David a lot on my trip, particularly as I sat alone on Sgurr Mor (Loch Quoich) were we finished our round of the Munros together in 1996. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he’s watching and listening.
With around £23,000 raised, we’re nearly half way there but I need your help to get to that £50,000 target even more than I needed it to get round the Munros.

Hi Gerry
Just learned about your great adventure and want to say good luck and take care of yourself (and Beinn of course!). I hope everything goes well and without comlications – keep going! A donation will follow.
Jiv
Marvellous to hear of your relentless progress Gerry…you make it all sound such fun. Amazing that a 12 Munro treatment proved a successful alternative to physio and rest for your painful leg muscles. It’s great that you are so far beyond half way and rumour has it that you are already planning for life after Munros!
good luck gerry will keep up with progress via your blog, and maybe do a munro along the way, i’m a former pupil of St Tams {1981} and a St Patricks regular and heard about your challange. great cause and would be glad to make a donation, take care.
All the very best, Gerry. I’ll be checking the blog regularly and with you in spirit as well (hopefully) as in person from time to time.
x
Good luck Dad!
Go Gerry Go!! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers each step of the way.
Love Monica x
Hi Gerry!
Wishing you all the best! Great to get your letter with more information, so we can follow your Munro Marathon. We know your persevering, even on skies here in Norway!! We are sorry we can not join you on one Munro.
Beste hilsen fra Hans og Bente.
Dear Gerry, heard from Shona about your planned Munro exploits – am in awe of your commitment – you are an inspiration! Will follow your progress with great interest!
All the very best,
Alison Fletcher and family
Gerry, received your letter today and just wanted to wish you the very best of luck with your amazing challenge. I’d love to make it up a Munro one day and maybe coming to cheer you on might just be the reason to do it! Will get started with some fund raising to add to your amazing effort.
All the very best, and take care
Susan
Hi Gerry
What a gorgeous day for your first Munro. Fingers crossed it continues. Thinking of you lots.
Angie
Hi Gerry
Day 4 and it’s drizzling in Newcastle so can imagine how hard it was for you to get out of bed this morning and think hey ho, 2 more munros! What a great challenge and there’s a little pose of us down here and my mum in The Lakes thinking about you every step of the way. Ba and I could join you for Dorian and Dothaidh on 24th if it fits in with you.
Take care and all the best, Jenny
if anyone missed the feature on stv news last night you can see it here!

Sorry I will not be with you now till later on in walk. Will do my utmost to be there, you are in my thoughts hope the snow does not slow you down. Take care and look after my mate Tom when he backs you up next week.

Hi Gerry, Just received a “good luck” card from Andrea Luff with a very kind donation for your chanllenge. I will post the card on for you, just wanted you to know now. Good Luck
Hi Gerry
A friend and I met you yesterday on Ben Vorlich and are very impressed by your challenge! The very best of luck to you!
Andrew
Hi Dad
Pretty wet in Edinburgh today. Hope you aren’t soaked and still ticking them off.
Hi Gerry
My friend is sending this from her PC. I wish you all the best in your venture. Many thanks for the information that you sent to me recently. I do hope that you will complete the ‘Mad Marathon’ in the specified time (which I am confident that you will). I will definitely be sending a donantion. All the best. Love Irene.
Hi Gerry
My friend, Julie, is sending this on my behalf. I wish you all the best in your venture and do hope that you will complete the mad marathon on time (which I am sure you will). I will definitely be sending a donation. All the best. Love Irene (Bremner)
Hi Gerry, hope you are well. You are making good progress. I will keep tracking you to see when you are in the area and try and join you. Anyway the whole of the mountain rescue team is behind you and thinking of you, good luck and take care.
Ryan 🙂
Dear Gerry
Think I’ve found out how this works! Amazed to find you’ve done 38 and probably several more while I type. Hope it all continues so marvellously.
Mary
Dear Gerry
I am so jealous. You have done more Munros in a week than I have done in ten years. But then you always were a lanky fit bugger. Take care now. I might just surprise you by ambushing you one day. You have my complete admiration.
Colin.
hi gerry,
you are doing great, your legs must be made of steal. don’t know if you remember us we were the 2 lads from carlisle you met in between ben vorlich and stuc a chroin on the 18th april. we were up again this weekend doing beinn ime and ben vane. we did them from butterbridge and was a very hard slog in poor weather, hope it was fairer for you. i see you are aiming to do all the alps in one day in june, what route will you take for that?
well, keep putting one foot in front of the other, you must be an extremely focused and resiliant person to continue day after day and we both wish you the very best for completion
greg and peter
Hi Gerry,
Started to look at the blog. As well as not been fit also not very good with computers so Kim has helped me look at what you are doing. Looking forward to joining you on a munro.
Take care Gerry Wright.
hope the wind has eased up a bit!
the gales I mean!!!
hi gerry, many thanks for letting me join you and the others on Sgorr Dhonuill and Sgorr Dhearg yesterday {monday} you are one determined man to do all the munros in 100 days at the age of 66 is remarkable, i hope i am as fit as you when i reach your age, will hopefully do some more munros with you along the way, good luck and take care.
Hi Gerry ~ i am writing from Lethbridge, AB, Canada. I heard about your adventure last evening and received your blog page today, April 27th. Mu husband and I have been part of l’Arche in western Canada for 37 years and send you best wishes and marvel at your adventure.
Hiya Gerry
You are going so well, I am glad I am ill and not getting “punished by you on the hill!” Poor Tom, you broke him. The weather was awful he said! What did you do to him he used to be so fit, and yet you managed 5 Munros. Very impressed by what you are acheiving, I know from my big walks how hard it can be, so ensure you look after yoursef. I will hopefully be able to get out with you when I recover if you fancy a slow day. I am supporting you every day in thought, take care my friend you are inspirational. Got £10 donation from my friend for you!
Hi Gerry – Great progress! I’ve been in contact with Hugo to say I’m planning to be in the Fisherfields next week to visit the 2 Tops that I missed on my round of Munros and would be keen to rendezvous with you to provide some company if you would like it and to find out more about your experiences as I was thinking of a similar venture in a few years time. We could either walk into Shenaval together on Wednesday or meet at Shenaval Wednesday evening. Do you know approx what time you will be leaving Corrie Hallie and if Wednesday is still your schedule?
Great to read of your progress, Gerry. I’m hoping to climb my first Munro, Ben Lomond, next week.
Fair play to you, i seen the van on my way back down from your stint at Loch Lochy…i was on the hill sharp….pity would have liked to met you on the hill…..best o luck
Hi Gerry, bumped into you and your “chauffeur” on the Loch Lochy Munros yesterday (30th April) — hope you got as good a view from the top of Meall na Teanga as I did, and avoided the worst of the showers! Wishing you the best of luck for your challenge over the coming months.
Delighted to get the great news (after a long ‘radio silence’) that you ar still going strong and up to 65 Munros at least. Good job you’re fitter than the van. Watched BBCiplayer just now to see the girls doing the Great Edinburgh Run…couldn’t pick them out…too much time wasted on elite runners! Anyway I see they’ve exceeded their target in sponsorship which is an amazing achievement.
Hi Gerry!
bravo…I am very impressed! I am still hoping to join you for few days and to enjoy the scottish mountains (almost as beautiful as the Pyrénées!!)
Do take care. Bon courage!
After 3 consecutive days of hard climbing in Glen Shiel last weekend my knees are still recovering. I’m full of admiration for your progress – have made a small donation, but I see you’re intending to finish on my local hill so come on Gerry – I hope to join you for your last one and to do a financial top-up then ! From a similar aged Munroist.
Gerry
I hope the Fisherfields went well, what an area, I am very jealous. These are huge hills and hope the weather was fair, I am hopefully recovering and will see how I feel next week, expect a call. Very proud of you mate, keep going and thinking of you every day. Tom Mac still recovering from his 2 days with you.
Hi Gerry, My dad Gerry Wright told us today about your amazing challenge! Well done and we hope it is going well. He also said he might join you at some point and he has been training for it this week. Good luck. Lisa and Darren x
Hi Gerry
Looks like all is going well (apart from mechanical breakdown)good luck to the end, wish I had been nearer to support, definatley with you in spirit. You are my inspiration for adventure and challenge!! Mandy x
Hi Gerry,
Met you on Sgurr Mor last Sunday, interesting to hear about your project. Good luck with both the challenge and the fundraising.
Rich.
looking forward to next week – will bring some baking and plan some fattening menus!
Hello Gerry! Hope you are doing good. I met you at Glencoe Hostel 2 weeks ago when i was on holidays with a friend. It was so nice to meet you – a fellow L’Arche supporter. I was really suprised to see the little L’Arche card at the reception desk. And then that blue van arrived as well! Talking about coincidence… 🙂 Anyway, think it’s great what you are doing and i hope everything is going as planned. Trudy and me were lucky to get back just in time before the ash clouds troubled the airtraffic again. I am going to send the photo to your email. Good luck and take care!
Helma
Managed a day with Gerry in Glen Feshie yesterday with John and Mary Cosgrove. Gerry was amazing company and going so well on the hill. It was winter up there, with snow showers, hail and very cold. Loads of snow on the Great Moss and Braeraich plateau. I only managed Mullach Clach A Blair (recovering from an illness) but John went on to Sgor Goaith with Gerry. A great priveledge to be on the hill with this man, his enthusuiasm is boundless, if you get a chance get out there with him and share the “ready brek” glow of the man. Dig deep he deserves it. Thanks Gerry cracking day out, see you again soon, once I recover! Heavy.
Glad to read Dr Shona has the weight loss problem in hand…her ‘treatment’ should be a real feast! Been following your friend David Whalley’s comments with amusement and glad to hear he was well enough to join you. Hope his friend Tom has fully recovered physicelly and psychologically from his his ordeal on the mountains with you! Praying for better weather both for you and us all.
Hi Gerry – Just to say I thoroughly enjoyed our Shenavall / Fisherfields days and I hope to catch up with you again later in your challenge. I admire your fitness and determination which is something for us all to aspire to! Good luck in the coming days and I hope the Cairngorms snow is not a hinderence. I believe they are still open for skiing on Cairn Gorm!
Hi Gerry, We are most impressed with your progress so far and the project as a whole. Look after yourself and keep up the great work.
We will be cycling to Broadford from Armadale on Sunday 23rd May and from Broadford to Loch Carron on Monday 24th May, so we will look out for your van in case we pass on the road. If we can, we will join you on the last Munro.
Hi Gerry,
Morag and I thoroughly enjoyed walking with you on Sunday and were very impressed by the fell running effort on the way down.
I’ve only just fully recovered from 2 long days on the hill then I see your relentless schedule with 12 days on the trot and I feel like such a wimp.
Hope you are eating well and did you get that massage from Angela?
Will certainly try to get to your last munro and will keep an eye on your schedule incase we can accompany you before that.
We will email you the photos from Seanna Bhreigh when ever we can.
Best wishes
Glad to have returned your phone to you yesterday at Mount Keen. Hope you enjoyed your dinner with us at Altdourie house last evening. Wish you good luck on the rest of your journey. Regards from the ancient walkers of Northumberland. John Wright
Hi Gerry – met you up Ben Klibreck last Sat (8th May) and you were on no78 by then and heading off to do Ben Hope….hope you have had a productive week and to bump into you again at some point in the next few months, good luck, Alistair Firth
Great to read of your continuing progress, Gerry.
If you’re in need of any further inspiration, it might be worth checking out Stephen Pyke’s concurrent endeavour, comparable to your own – which someone told me about – on munros2010.blogspot.com.
Hope the forecast warmer weather in the coming days, doesn’t prove too much of an impediment !!

I was told of the weather in Cairngorms with Alaister last week, incredible. You are all ready a legend in Torridon, thinking of getting a statue made for you at Beleach Na Ba. Keep up the great work hope to get out soon. I am still slow but getting there. . I have a cd of you in action looking as ever cool and fit in the Feshies will I send it on or keep it for you! Take care.
Well done Shona! Great to hear you’ve been with Gerry and even done a couple of Munros. Gerry,I’ve just obtained 3 Munro summit identification maps and I’m attempting to follow what you’re doing. Even that is pretty exhausting!
Just been catching up with your blog and your blistering schedule and am absolutely amazed at how you’re doing. It only seems like 5 minutes since Barbara and I were walking Gulvain with you (the ankle is still playing up!)and now your on 120 or so and only 2 rest days. What an acheivement already. We were so lucky to get to walk with you, thanks for a great day out – I was really tired by the time we got back to Newcastle after our 22k! Keep eating those calories and putting those feet one in front of another, take care and lots of thoughts, your doing an amazing thing, Jenny
Dear Gerry, Very glad to hear you’ve had better weather complete with wild flowers and midges! It’s also great to hear the Cullin Ridge has been ticked off…lets me stop worrying about the Innaccessible Pinnacle! Had to buy another map and a guide book but keeping up with your progress is still a challenge.
Hi Gerry. I am friendly with quite a number of your former patients and we are all interested in your venture. We all wish you well. Love, Irene (Bremner).
Gerry
You are amazing!! What else can I say? ‘novel experience’…..yes Gerry, ‘Novel’ is the word. Do you not feel one coming on? It would be great to record your adventure!! Wish I had the stamina to join you…I could be doing with losing some beef! I’m full of admiration, Gerry. You are one in a million and a great inspiration. Keep well and enjoy the moments. God bless you.
Monica
Hi Dad,
Thinking about you every day.
Loads of love,
Baffy xx

Glad all going well, car in for MOT but managed out on Fannichs yesterday, everyone is talking about this superfit hero charging round the hills!!!!!
I am off to Skye climbing and will try to see you soon. You are going so well, with have to donate some more cash!!!!!!!
Hope weather holds and my admiration for you is boundless, take care and remember to slow down at the end for us young ones! The Gerry fanclub in Burghead.
Dear Gerry, For my latest comments see April 7…and I thought I’d got the hang of this!
Hi Gerry, just read about your progress on this… good luck in completing it!
All the best, Bruce & Linda @ Scotland from the Roadside
Hi Gerry
It was a gorgeous and not to mention very hot day in Edinburgh today. Thought of you climbing in this heat and hope you had lots of water and sunscreen! We had a wonderful night of salsa in the Parish Hall last night. Fergus and I discovered that we both had two left feet but the sangria seemed to help somehow… Thinking of you so much and keep on trekking! Tons of love to you and hope the weather stays kind to you. Donation to follow!
Gerry,
Lost in admiration, desperately busy in school, and with prep for Patrick’s Graduation but with you in spirit all the way. Even our community polisman had spotted your van, up by Glen Etive I think it was. Clearly the Leitrim hill scrambling genes are well and truly active! We know you will be enjoying Davie’s comments in your ear!
God Bless and God speed!
John, Rosie and Patrick
Hi Gerry,
Apologies for not adding my admiration to this sooner. It’s great keeping track of your achievements during what must be a fantastic venture, one that I’m sure Fr David would wholeheartedly approve of. I’m making it my goal to raise even more awareness for this cause, and I wish you all the best in your future ascents!
Take care, you’re an inspiration for us all.
Thanks for two unforgettable days in the mountains around Ben Alder Forest. It was great to join you in such a fantastic area. I made it back through the mist to Culra by 2.30 pm and Dalwhinnie an hour later.
Hope you met up with Rhona as planned and your evening meal at Loch Ossian YH was as enjoyable as you anticipated.
Enjoy your rest day tomorrow.
Go With God,
Norrie.
Sorry posted a comment logged in as Dad!
Meant to say, hope Mum managed to feed you well in L Ossian. Isobel keeps talking about Grandad’s trip and Angela’s little doggies and their biscuits! Sorry we can’t join you again but you’re getting a bit far away.
love
Shona, John and the girls
Hi Gerry, delighted to see the fantastic progress you are making; your tenacity is humbling. Still hoping to join you (my foot operation recovery going well). If you need a ‘rest house’ before the Braeriach – Bynack day come and stay with us. I can drop you and collect you those days if needed too. Don’t ask about the World Cup…
Great to see you are doing so well Gerry. Enjoying keeping up to date with progress. All the best from Westlea, Ullapool
Have put some photos on from Dad – not very IT-literate so no idea why caption font so big, sorry! More to follow when my girls allow me the time.
Dad in Glenshiel, sounds to be in good form.
Great photos Shona. They give a very good idea of the incredible scale of the whole endeavour but they don’t answer the key question has Gerry managed to get a shower yet?
Gerry you are going great, I am helping with Highland Cross this weekend then down to see my new grandaughter for 10 days. Great to see you going so well, you are my hero and a true legend! Keep going and it will soon be all over! Heavy

Hi Gerry. We have enjoyed reading about your continuing and impressive progress and achievment – even finishing earlier than your schedule. We are very impressed! It would have been great to join you on some!! Enjoy the rest and have a great summer!!
Nearly there ! A fantastic accomlishment indeed. Sorry I have not been able to join you further – things have just not been working the way I would have wished. Have been following your progress intently though. ‘Heavy’ and myself hope to see you on Tuesday for the grand finale but for now all the best including decent weather.

Wonderful Gerry…only three days to go. Its suddenly so hot here I’d been hoping you’d plenty of sun screen with you! I seem to have misjudged that! Its good you managed to battle through all the Scottish mid-summer weather could throw at you and even get a quick visit home. Hope Andy got through relatively unscathed.
Go Gerry, Go!
Glad you made it today Dad, really looking forward to Tuesday.
Great stuff Gerry. You will be St Margaret’s Official Charity for Aug/Sept so hope you’ll be able to pay a visit. Fantastic effort. John, Rosie and Patrick
Gerry, given yesterday’s gale force winds we fully expected to see you cartwheeling over Blairgowrie at 5,000 feet. No problem with midges then?
What a remarkable final push, see you tomorrow!
PS What’s next, the Marathon des Sables or Iditarod?
Gerry
I hope to be there on your last hill and will walk in your wake, I am so proud of what you are and acheived you are a great example to us all. Is it 1100 at Comerie tomorrow? Where abouts in Comerie are we meeting? Tom MacDonald will be with me all being well.

Gerry
Congratulations I really enjoyed the day on Ben Chonzie with all your friends, what you have achieved is inceredible and a wonderful journey through Scotlands finest mountains. Not many will appreciate the effort, determonation and drive you had to produce day after day for all these great hill days. You are the envy of many and a great example to us all. It was a priveledge to be there. The spontanus applause as you arrived said it all as you arrived at the car park, it was wonderful I hope you and family have a wee break now for a few days! Trust me you are now a “Munro Legend” and I look forward to a “slow day” on the hill with you in the future. Well done my friend.

If anyone missed the STV news yesterday you can watch it on
http://news.stv.tv/video/stv-news-at-six-west-20100707/
but unlike the coverage from Ben Lomond I can’t find a link to the specific bit with Dad in so you have to watch the whole programme to catch him. It’s at about 11min 50sec so you can have it playing in another window while you’re waiting!
or you can watch it on the Aberdeen regional version which is surprisingly different! (15m47s into news.)
